Not when cleaned properly. Natural stone like sandstone, limestone and slate requires the right combination of pressure, chemistry and technique rather than aggressive washing. We assess your stone type before starting and use methods that remove algae and staining without causing damage or etching.
Black spot (lichen) on Indian sandstone requires specialist treatment. We use targeted biocides and the correct cleaning methods to kill and remove the growth. In the vast majority of cases we achieve full results on the day - very old or extreme staining may leave a faint shadow, but this is rare.
A typical domestic patio takes between two and four hours to clean depending on size, material and condition. Natural stone with heavy algae growth takes longer than porcelain or concrete. If you're having sealing done afterwards, allow additional drying time of 24–48 hours before we return to seal.
It depends on the material and your priorities. Natural stone, block paving and concrete benefit from sealing - it enhances colour, protects against staining and makes future cleaning easier. Porcelain doesn't usually need sealing. We'll recommend what's best for your specific patio and explain the pros and cons honestly.
Yes. We're careful around pointing and adjust pressure accordingly. If your pointing is already loose or degraded, we'll flag this before starting. In some cases, re-pointing may be needed after cleaning - we offer a re-pointing service and can include it in your quote or arrange it afterwards if required.
Absolutely. Algae and organic growth make patios dangerously slippery, especially when wet. Our cleaning removes this build-up and restores grip to the surface. For long-term protection, we can suggest maintenance schedules or additional treatments to slow regrowth.
